Steven Tingate's tragic passing.
Steven was a well known identity around Ballan. He was a member of the Fire Brigade, Football and Bowling clubs and will be sadly missed. Although he didn't play cricket he was known by many around the club. A raffle is being held, Thursday night, by the Bowling club with proceeds going to the Tingate family Condolences from the Ballan Cricket Club. Round 5 for the 2nd Grade side saw some great hitting and large scores on the board for Ballan. Captain Michael Snaith won the toss and elected to bat, against Brown Hill, only to fall with the score at 16. The rest of the team then rallied early to bring up their highest score for the season finishing at 4/415 declared from 61 overs. David Gardiner then came in at number 3 (maybe he has found his spot in the order) to team up with Justin Fawcus, at number 2 for the first time for Ballan. Justin and Gards put on 168 runs between them with Justin getting 63 , including 6 fours and 2 sixes, while Gards got his maiden century of 116, with 17 fours and 5 sixes. Gardsy lost his stumps at 184 and Justin followed 8 runs later. These two quick wickets then brought Zac Graham and Noel Heafield to the crease where the hard hitting continued. Zac scored 89 off 71 balls (14 fours and 2 sixes) while Noel was unbeaten on 131 off 73 balls. Their partnership ended up on 223. Noel hit 19 fours and 5 sixes, sure beats running I suppose. The declaration gave Ballan 15 overs to bowl at Brown Hill. These overs proved successful with Sam Dehnert picking up 2/3 off 2 overs. An interesting sideline to the game was that cousins Zac & Dylan Graham opened the bowling for the first time together. Not to be totally outdone, the One day C graders, won their game convincingly by 9 wickets with Captain Rob Lindsey and newcomer for this season, John Costello doing the job for the team. Ballan bowled the opposition out for 162. Rob with figures of 8 overs 4 maidens 2/22 and John 8 overs 3 maidens 4/22. Rob also took 2 catches to complete a good day. Other wicket takers , with one each, were; Michael Vallance, George Muir, Ash Smith and H Dickson. The game was George Muir's first senior game so to get a wicket was a great achievement for him Rob and John then put on an opening partnership of 161, with Rob not out on 70 and John making 67. Mullagh Wills Rematch
Day 1 Ballan and Buninyong faced off in a rematch for the Mullagh Wills Trophy on Saturday 14th of October. With Ballan having won the inaugural match last season, Buninyong were keen to take it back with them this time around. Ballan won the toss and Michael Snaith elected to bat but things started off slowly with Jack McGregor run out on 3 with the score on 11 and Michael falling with 9 at 36. David Gardiner, in his first game for the season, started well with the bat scoring 68 runs off 66 balls including 12 boundaries. A partnership of 38 with Tim Landt steadied the ship for a while. A 7th wicket partnership of 48 between , cousins, Ben Loughnane (16) and Dylan Graham (40) also brought bit of respectability to the score leaving Ballan all out for 165. Bunninyong started steadily with L Reynolds losing his wicket at 18 leaving Michael Flynn (31) batting with S Squire (29). With no further loss for the day, Buninyong finished 1/69 off 26 overs leaving them in a good position, at the end of day one, to win next weekend. |
