Noel Heafield wins 2014/15 Bernie Davey Medal
On Wednesday night the 18 of March at Bray Raceway, in conjunction with the E.J. Cleary Medal presentation, Noel Heafield had a convincing win to take out the Division 1 top award. Noel was not able to make it to the presentation night so Captain Mick Nolan accepted his awards on his behalf as well as his own awards. Mick seemed to spend half the night up on the stage as he was also interviewed in regard to the upcoming Grand Final against Lucas and also to speak about Noel. Noel won by polling 17 votes throughout the 2014/15 season to eventually finish 7 votes clear of his next rivals. The runners up, on 10 votes were; Zac Graham, Michael Snaith and Dan Kitchen from (Bunninyong) Other Ballan players to poll were Mick Nolan on 4, Jarryd Graham on 3 and a late run from Daniel Romeo with 1 vote. Ballan had another successful night with Noel also picking up the Champion player for Div 1, Mick Nolan getting the Wicket Keeping Dismissals award ( 14) equal with Jake Pring (Lucas) and Highest score by a batsman ( 146) Michael Snaith won the Bowling Averages with 10.38 ave ahead of Andre Prence (Burrumbeet) 12.33 ave. Ballan's T20 team almost took out the grand final against Golden point at Brown Hill on Sunday afternoon. Golden Point only passing Ballan's total in the 2nd last over after losing a couple of late wickets thanks to Dave Gardiner. The 6 game competition over 3 Sundays was well fought out by our boys with many top performances including; Noel Heafield 57 & 79 and 2/10 in the Semi, Mick Loughnane 60 & 46, Zac Graham 46, 40, 53 & 59 in the Semi, Lachie Dickson 35, Ryan Aquilina 4/5 in the Semi, Michael Snaith 4/10 & 2/30, Ben Loughnane 2/23. Our best in the Grand Final were Daniel Romeo 43 and David Gardiner 2/12. Ballan showed good stead going into the finals having only lost 1 game, against Darley under lights at the Darley Civic Hub, and 3 wins. A couple of games were very close coming down to the wire in the last over. Good value for the spectators that were following the games. Ballan did a great job as they were not only competing against Div 1 sides but also against the BCA club teams and showed that they were good enough to go head to head with them. The Semi Final was a great show of this as Ballan went in as underdogs being bowled out for 105 runs. Ballarat/Redan may have relaxed a bit too much thinking a win was coming (as did the umpires) however Ballan stuck to it and bowled extremely well bowling the opposition out for only 45. Our boys have now won the right to compete at Cricket Willow in a T20 comp being the best Div 1 side, along with Golden Point, the best Club side. The comp is on Australia Day 2015 and may be against teams from the Castlemaine competition |
2014/15 BCC Presentation Night
The Ballan Cricket Club held their 2014/15 presentation night on Thursday the 2nd of April at the Recreation Reserve rooms. The evening was a special one as both our Under 16 2nd XI and our Division 1 teams took out their respective Grand Finals. The night began with the Under 12 awards being handed out by Coach Jake Glissen, followed by the Division 3 presentations with Captain Troy Connor. The “2nd XI Chris Mullane Cricketer of the Year” award went to Hayden Micallef. Hayden also won the bowling award with 17 wickets at an average of 13. Next awards were presented for the U14 and U16s with Dylan Graham taking the U14 cricketer of the year and Thomas McGregor winning the U16 cricketer of the year. The next award for the night, the “Leigh Conroy Best Clubman” was awarded to both Jordan Loughnane & Peter McGregor. Before the Division 1 presentations there was a surprise award of Life Membership awarded to Mick Loughnane. Mick’s award has been well deserved as he has been Captain and Coach of the Div 1 & 3 teams, coach of both U14 & U16 teams committee member, current President and Premiership player for Ballan. Finally the night ended with the Div 1 awards with Noel Heafield getting the top honour when he was presented the “McConnell Family Club Champion” by David McConnell. Noels award follows up his BCA wins with the Bernie Davey Medal and Champion player for Division 1. About Us.
for 2014/15 The Ballan Cricket Club currently has 2 Senior teams and 2 Under age teams competing in the Ballarat Cricket Association for the 2014/2015 season. Last season, in a new initiative, we fielded an Under 12 team in the Melton Association Junior Competition with them playing on a Friday night between 5 & 7.30 p.m. We will continue this successful endeavor in the upcoming season. This initiative is filling a gap between Milo cricket and the Ballarat U14 competitions, giving up and coming young cricketers a chance to have a game of competitive cricket and to keep their interest. 2014/15 is seeing the club looking at 'Milo T20 Blast' to continue to build junior skills and to further fill the gap between 'Milo Have a Go' and U12's. Our senior teams compete in both Division 1 & 3 and have played in the Twenty/20 District Competition Cup 2013/2014 ,coming in as runners up, whilst our juniors are in; Under 16 Green, Under 14 Green & U12 . 2013/14 saw both senior teams make the semi's only to finish there whilst our U14's & U16's made it through to the grand final although unsuccessful. The U14's missing out by 2 runs. Overall a pretty successful season. Due to ground renovations, this coming season, our home ground will be at the Korweinguboora Recreation Reserve & some games may be scheduled at the Wallace Rec Reserve. ( refer to the maps below) Some of our U14 & U12 games will be at Myrniong & Korweinguboora Training will still be at Ballan. The Centurions supporters club has also been introduced to the BCC to bring non playing members ( ex players & supporters alike) together to be recognized as a large and ongoing part of the club. Well done to all of our teams for the previous season & good luck for the current season. And many thanks to our sponsors and supporters. 2014/15 T20 roundup
